General Information
Installing this program may remove previous versions of IMAQVision for LabVIEW, IMAQ Vision for Measurement Studio, NI OCR, NI-IMAQ, andMeasurement & Automation Explorer (MAX) that are currently installed.
IMAQ Vision 7.1.1 supports LabVIEW 6.1 or later, Visual Studio 6.0or later, and LabWindows™/CVI™ 6.0 or later. The installer specifically allowsside-by-side installations of IMAQ Vision 7.1.1 for each of the supportedversions of LabVIEW, enabling you to use the Vision 7.1.1 Development Modulewith multiple versions of LabVIEW. National Instruments recommends that youinstall LabVIEW, or any other supported development environment, beforeinstalling the Vision 7.1.1 Development Module.
NOTE: The Vision 7.1.1 Development Module overwrites existingNI-IMAQ examples, IMAQ Vision examples, and IMAQ Vision VIs. Move modifiedexamples or VIs that you want to save to another directory before installingthe Vision 7.1.1 Development Module.
For installation instructions and a complete list of systemrequirements, refer to the Vision 7.1.1 Development Module Release Notes.
New Features
All submodulesof the Vision 7.1.1 Development Module have the following new features:

  • Geometric Matching—Functions     for locating regions in a grayscale image that match a model, or template,     of a reference pattern. Geometric matching is specialized to locate templates     that are characterized by distinct geometric or shape information.

  • 2D Barcodes—Functions     for creating an application that reads Data Matrix and PDF417 2D barcodes.

  • Particle     Classification—Application for training and classifying samples     in images, as well as functions for creating an application that trains     and classifies samples based on their shape or a user-defined feature     vector.

  • Optical Character     Recognition (OCR)—Application for training and reading characters     in images, as well as functions for creating an application that analyzes     an image and trains and reads characters in images.

IMAQ Visionfor LabVIEW, IMAQ Vision for LabWindows/CVI, and IMAQ Vision for Visual Basichave the following new features:

  • Custom Data—Support     for reading, writing, and removing custom data from an image. Custom image     data is accessible through the key with which the data is associated.

  • Load Image Dialog—Support     for displaying a dialog box with which you can preview image files and     specify a path, or paths, to images. The dialog box displays selected     image files to aid in selecting the correct file.

  • 64-bit RGB—Support     for 64-bit RGB images.

  • Vision     Development Module Bookshelf—Gateway to all Vision Development Module documentation installed with your     software. Go to Start»Program Files»National Instruments»Vision»Documentation»Search     the Vision Bookshelf to launch the bookshelf.

IMAQ Visionfor LabWindows/CVI and IMAQ Vision for Visual Basic have the followingadditions:

  • Improved Particle     Analysis—Particle analysis interface now supports calibrated     measurements, which yield results up to 10 times faster than the previous     method. Also, particle analysis is up to twice as fast as previous     versions when computing uncalibrated measurements.

  • AVI File Support—Support     for reading and writing multiple images to Audio Video Interleaved (AVI) movie     files. IMAQ Vision 7.1.1 adds the ability to read AVI files, write     compressed AVI files, and read and write additional data to AVI files.

  • Enhanced Circle     and Ellipse Fitting—New circle and ellipse fitting routines     that ignore outliers, providing more accurate circle and ellipse fits. You     can configure the degree to which outliers are ignored.

  • Pattern Matching     Enhancements—Updated pattern matching interface that     performs with improved accuracy. The new interface also allows for     low-level control of the pattern matching algorithm.

  • Overlay     Enhancements—Support for merging a non-destructive overlay     into an image, making the overlay part of the image content. This feature     allows you to view and print the image, with its overlay information, from     any third-party imaging software.

VisionAssistant 7.1.1 has the following additions:

  • Geometric Matching—Functions     for creating an application that searches for a pattern or template image     with less concern about lighting variations, occlusion, or scale     variation. The search relies on geometric features in the image for     matching.

  • Japanese Language     Support—Vision Assistant software and documentation are now     available in Japanese.

Known Issues

  • In     Geometric Matching, the default scale range is 75% to 125% (instead of the     documented 50% to 200%). The default occlusion range is 0% to 25% (instead     of the documented 0% to 50%).

  • AVI     functionality requires Microsoft DirectX 8.1 or later.

  • On     Windows XP with Service Pack 2 installed, IMAQ Vision 7.1.1 does not     support reading AVI files located in a      the Local Settings folder, or any subfolders of this     folder, when the AVI file uses any of the following compression filters:

    • Indeo®      Video 5.10 Compression Filter

    • Intel      Indeo® Video R3.2

    • Intel      Indeo® Video 4.5

    • Indeo®      Video 5.10

Copying the AVI file to another folder resolvesthis problem.

  • Viewing     the online help files requires Microsoft Internet Explorer 5 or later.

  • Using     IMAQ Vision 7.1.1 with LabWindows/CVI on a machine that does not support     the MMX instruction set may cause an Illegal Operation exception to occur     within the LabWindows/CVI environment. This error occurs when DirectX     checks for the availability of the MMX instruction set on the machine.

  • If you     create a LabVIEW Shared Library (DLL) that uses any IMAQ Vision VIs, the     DLL can be used only with the version of LabVIEW in which it was created.

  • The     Visual Basic .NET examples may display the UI controls with incorrect size     and location settings if you use a computer with a DPI display setting     other than 96 DPI. 96 DPI is     the default setting for most Windows operating systems.

  • IMAQ     Vision 7.1.1 does not support the use of Image Display control invoke nodes     when using LabVIEW 7.0 Real-Time. The following examples use Image Display     control invoke nodes. Avoid downloading these examples to a LabVIEW 7.0     Real-Time target.

Using IMAQ Vision 7.1.1 with Microsoft VisualStudio .NET 2003
IMAQ Vision 7.1.1 supports interoperability between the Vision7.1.1 ActiveX control and Microsoft Visual Studio .NET 2003. IMAQ Visioninstalls the following Interop Assemblies that allow .NET languages tocorrectly communicate with the ActiveX controls:
·        NationalInstruments.AxCWIMAQControlsLib.Interop.dll - cwimaq.ocx
·        NationalInstruments.AxCWIMAQHelpButton.Interop.dll - CWIMAQHlpBtn.ocx
·        NationalInstruments.AxCWMV.Interop.dll - cwmv.ocx
·        NationalInstruments.AxNIOCRLib.Interop.dll - niocr.ocx
You can find these assemblies in the<Vision>dotNETAssembliesCurrent directory. The assemblies installed byIMAQ Vision correctly wrap several methods that generate errors if you call themethods using the assemblies generated by Visual Studio .NET. For informationabout the properties, methods, and events available with these assemblies, seethe IMAQ Vision for Visual Basic Reference and the IMAQ Vision forVisual Basic User Manual.
Creating a New .NET Application using IMAQVision 7.1,1
You must first add the IMAQ Vision controls to your toolbox whencreating a new application. Complete the following steps to add the IMAQ Visioncontrols to the Microsoft Visual Studio .NET 2003 Toolbox:

  • In     Visual Studio .NET, either create a new application or open an existing     one.

  • Open a     form in Design View.

  • Select View»Toolbox.

  • Select     the category in which you want the IMAQ Vision controls to appear, such as     General, Components, and so on.

  • Select Tools»Add/Remove     Toolbox Items.

  • In the .NET     Framework Components tab, select the controls you want to add to your     application. Choose from CWIMAQ, CWIMAQVision, CWIMAQViewer, CWMachineVision, and CWOCR.

When the controls are in the toolbox, you can add them to yourforms by clicking the tool and drawing an area on the form. References to theIMAQ Vision Interop Assemblies are automatically added to your project.
Viewing the IMAQ Vision 7.1.1 Examples
The IMAQ Vision examples for Microsoft Visual Studio .NET 2003 areconverted from the IMAQ Vision for Visual Basic examples. The .NET examples arewritten in Visual Basic .NET and demonstrate use of the IMAQ Vision 7.1.1Interop Assemblies. The examples are located in the <Vision>ExamplesMSVB.NET directory, and the images for the examples arelocated in the <Vision>ExamplesImages directory.
Converting an Existing Microsoft Visual Basic6.0 Application
Microsoft's automatic upgrade engine often generates its ownInterop assemblies rather than referencing the official IMAQ Vision 7.1.1Interop assemblies. When this happens, your project will have two referencesfor every IMAQ Vision assembly needed. Complete the following steps tocorrectly reference the IMAQ Vision 7.1.1 Interop assemblies:

  • In     Visual Studio .NET, select Edit»Find and Replace»Replace     in Files.

  • Replace     the following with NationalInstruments.CWIMAQControls:

AxCWIMAQControlsLib
AxCWIMAQHelpButtonLib
AxCWMVLib
AxNIOCRLib

  • Select View»Solution     Explorer.

  • Expand     the Project References.

  • Remove     the following references if they are present:

AxCWIMAQControlsLib
AxCWIMAQHelpButton
AxCWMV
AxNIOCRLib
